Mother Tree offers therapeutic relief from pregnancy related discomfort. When we receive prenatal massage, practitioners can sometimes be overly cautious and reluctant to provide the pressure that your muscles may need to soften and relax. Rest assured, your well-experienced, certified perinatal massage therapist will provide safe and effective relief from achy or painful muscles throughout your pregnancy.
As beautiful and miraculous as it is, growing a baby is hard work! From rapidly rising levels of hormones to the stretching of ligaments and bones to substantial weight gain, the woman’s body goes throughout tremendous changes through pregnancy. Structural shifts such as increased force upon joints, an exaggerated curvature of the lower back, a widening of the pelvis and rib cage, and a change in the center of gravity also ensue. These extreme changes often lead to emotional and physical discomfort for the mother as her baby develops. Many women feel limited in their ability to find relief. Massage therapy has been proven to provide comfort for expectant mothers by reducing stress, edema, muscle pain and spasms — naturally. In addition, massage will promote relaxation, better sleep, and a healthier pregnancy.
Positioning:
Your comfort and the safety of you and your baby during the massage is a top priority. Depending on your comfort and preference, a side-lying massage with ample cushioning to support your body may provide the most restful position. Another option is the use of the Body Support System, a specialized cushioning system that allows women to comfortably lay face down during the massage. For late-second and third trimesters, this is the only time a woman can lay face down.... AND LOVE IT!
Precautions:
*If there is any risk associated with your pregnancy, please acquire written approval from your health care provider before scheduling your massage appointment.
*If you are experiencing any symptoms of concern, please see your health care provider before scheduling your massage appointment.
*Due to the extreme increase of blood flow and the slight possibility of blood clots forming in the legs, it is recommended that pregnant women receive no deep tissue massage on the legs.
*There are a few pressure points that should not be stimulated during pregnancy because they are known to cause uterine contractions. These points will be avoided.
